WELLTEC BREAKTHROUGH SUCCESSIn renewable's market segment with high temp WAB
Welltec® offered a 812WAB solution providing the foundation for pressure support to the column of cement slurry placed above, preventing the curing cement from becoming contaminated.
The 812WAB would also offer anchoring support to the casing string in the event of thermal contraction or expansion of the casing string during production or shut-down operations.
During deployment, water flooded the well to keep temperatures ≤ 212°F—full production temperatures will be 545°F. The adapted, standard 812WAB supported the cement column during curing and prevented free-water/acid from contaminating the cement or reaching the surface.
This job also marked a continuation of Welltec working within the geothermal market, in the Philippines. The client provided estimates that a new well would have cost the client upwards of $9mm.
Welltec’s facilitated a life-of-well, CAPEX-effective well-rejuvenation methodology, proving the value of engineered well remediation techniques.
This initial success lead the client has purchased another 1214 & 812WAB for use in upcoming wells to address the same issue.
Our ISO 14310 rated, steel expandable WAB® (Welltec Annular Barrier) is expanded between the base pipe and the casing or the borehole by applying pressure in the casing. It conforms to the actual well bore geometry.
