Transition to sustainable energy sources at Welltec HQ
Welltec® is delighted to share significant milestones in our journey toward sustainability.
Firstly, the installation of a heat pump system at Welltec headquarters in Allerød, Denmark, has drastically reduced our reliance on natural gas for heating. Thus, in 2023, we saw an impressive 70% drop in natural gas consumption in comparison with 2022. This translates to a remarkable reduction in our ‘Scope 1’ CO2 emissions by 184 tons.
Secondly, the addition of solar panels to the roof area has been highly impactful.
These solar panels generated 15% of our power consumption in 2023, contributing to a substantial reduction in our reliance on traditional energy sources. As a result, we've prevented the equivalent CO2 emissions, bolstering our commitment to sustainability, and minimizing our overall footprint.
Scope 1 GHG emissions
The CO2 figures are calculated using a digital tool known as the Climate Compass, developed by the Danish Business Authority (Erhvervsstyrelsen).
Scope 1 refers to the direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that occur from sources that are owned or controlled by the entity in question. These emissions typically result from activities such as burning fossil fuels for heat or power, emissions from owned vehicles, or emissions from chemical processes. They are categorized as Scope 1 emissions according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, which is a widely used standard for accounting and reporting greenhouse gas emissions.
Minimizing footprint
These initiatives support ongoing efforts at Welltec to minimize our own carbon footprint, and to fully align with our mission: the application of engineering and technology to provide safe, effective and quantifiable energy solutions.
By embracing innovative technologies and sustainable practices, we continue to demonstrate our dedication to creating a greener, more sustainable future.
In addition to the environmental benefits, these initiatives will contribute to cost savings and operational efficiency, further enhancing our competitive advantage and long-term viability.
