Well abandonment

Future-proof well construction

Well abandonment

Future-proof wells for CAPEX effective P&A by incorporating Welltec® Metal Expandable Packers technology, and Welltec® Expandable Anchor (WEA) for Casedhole Plug.

A paradigm shift in drilling and well construction

Globally, operators are faced with a large number of wells that require plug & abandonment (P&A). By today’s standards, many of these wells are not constructed to accommodate risk free CAPEX effective P&A.

The need for safe and effective P&A has driven a paradigm shift in drilling and well construction methodology to implement best practice for the entire life of a well, including design, construction, production, and ultimately its abandonment.

Cement alone is not a reliable barrier, and operators and now planning for the installation of multiple barriers and multi-component barriers i.e., combining cement with mechanical barriers and resins to construct wells in a more proactive approach to abandonment.

Applications

  • CAPEX effective P&A
  • Future proof construction

P&A Cement Plug Foundation

The Welltec® Expandable Box Plug Anchor (WEA) provides a temporary or permanent abandonment solution with a qualified gas-tight seal. Surface-controlled hydraulic expansion ensures two-way anchoring and sealing. The solution is qualified according to the highest level API and ISO standards. The WEA for Casedhole Plug design minimizes subcomponents, ensuring reliability and efficiency while simplifying well construction. WEA allows for reciprocity, circulation, and/or rotation during deployment.
