Background

A highly deviated, water injector well, offshore Norway had a leak in the tubing above the Downhole Safety Valve (DHSV) that required remediation.

Typically, this procedure would fall under normal, standard practices but this well was notorious for its limited rig up height of only 42 ft (12,8m). Standard equipment was difficult to utilize in a safe, efficient manner. This made Welltec’s, brand new Well Tractor Compact Rig-up (CR) the ideal solution. The Well Tractor CR can be configured to be as short as 10 ft (3m).

Operation

On the first run the Well Tractor CR 318 was used to convey a 40 finger multifinger caliper into the well where it logged from 13.255 ft (4.040m). The WT CR, which incorporates Welltec’s NG technology, performed perfectly on this trial run.

Following the successful logging operations the client decided to set a plug just above 13.255 ft (4.040m) and the Well Tractor CR was again called into action. Again it worked flawlessly to convey and pass through power to a third party setting tool which set the plug. This was confirmed via a pressure test.

Achievements

During these operations the Well Tractor CR achieved tractoring speeds of nearly 7.000 ft/hr (2.100 m/hr), demonstrating the power of the NG technology.

Because of this optimized speed and reduced tool length the client saved approximately 3-4 hours as compared to other e-line conveyance solutions.
