Stoker Hydrate Melter

Hydrate, wax, and paraffin plug removal by Aarbakke Innovation

Hydrate plug removal

Developed by Aarbakke Innovation, the Stoker Hydrate Melter is a high-performance tool that enables efficient removal of hydrate, wax, and paraffin plugs via the direct application of heat.

The e-line deployed heating element melts plugs at a rate of up to 4 meters per hour, meaning significant time and cost savings compared to traditional pump-and-bleed methods carried out in cycles.

With a high-power turndown ratio between 0.5–4 kW controlling an even heat distribution, the Stoker Hydrate Melter supports a wide range of operating modes to quickly resolve different downhole access challenges in oil and gas wells.

Overview

The Stoker Hydrate Melter applies targeted heat to dissolve hydrate, wax, and paraffin plugs.

Equipped with an industrial-grade heating element and copper housing, it is optimized to concentrate heat toward the tool's nose for maximum melting capacity, while also ensuring even heat distribution along the housing for full-bore melting effectiveness.

Powered by DC and optimized for long cable deployment, the Stoker Hydrate Melter is built for continuous operation without loss of performance or detrimental effect to its heating element.

Compatible with standard GO-box interfaces and requiring no special cabling or power setup, the tool also offers on-site adaptability via customizable resistance for different power or cable specifications.

Key benefits:

  • Targeted intervention – Heat is applied precisely where needed.
  • Rapid results – Melts hydrate plugs at up to 4 meters per hour.
  • Fully surface controlled with live power adjustment 0.5-4 kW.
  • Easy logistics – Lightweight (27 kg) and flight-ready.
  • Standard toolstring and topside equipment; no special requirements.
