>4 hours vs. conventional conveyance
A client in Northeastern Pennsylvania required conveyance of fiber optics into a dry gas production well for production monitoring operations. The lateral extended 13,100 ft within a 21,000 ft MD well, making efficient and reliable conveyance critical to achieving target depth.
While conveying fiber optics without assistance is technically possible, it can also be slow and prone to operational risk from friction and potential lock-up. To reduce time and improve efficiency, Welltec deployed the Well Tractor® with Continuous Variable Tractoring (CVT).
The CVT design continuously maximizes speed and force by adapting in real time to downhole conditions. With a higher pulling force-to-weight ratio than previous tractor iterations and integrated surface read-out diagnostics, the CVT offers operators faster, more stable, and safer conveyance – particularly in long laterals requiring extended reach.
The operation included pre-job testing, rig-up, and run-in-hole with a toolstring comprising the fiber optic rod a Well Tractor (212) CVT.
The entire sequence was executed without delays, with the optimized conveyance derived from CVT reducing run-in time by more than four hours compared to alternative solutions.
